Let’s just look at a few of the things that we do as part of our Maintenance and Support that can affect the health and wellbeing of your website:

    • Updates to WordPress
This includes the theme being used as well as any plugins used for functionality. On average, this amounts to 10 to 15 (but can be as high as 30 to 50) updates per month.
    • Security Monitoring
For some reason, best known to themselves, there are people out there who love nothing better than trying to hack other peoples websites! We install and configure security plugins on all of the websites we build to make them as secure as possible, but they need adjustments over time and particularly in sustained attacks. If this isn’t done, your website will slow down and eventually crash due to the load.
    • Security Scan
Using Sucuri’s Site Check Tools to scan your website to check for Web-based integrity, Vulnerabilities and Malware.
    • PHP Updates (if on our hosting)
PHP is the programming language used in WordPress. Each PHP version improves performance by more efficiently running processes and reducing memory usage. This impacts your WordPress site speed by making it faster and reducing the load on your server.
    • Page Speed
Websites slow down over time and need monitoring and tweaking to keep them in tip-top condition, just like a car.
    • Backups
Absolutely essential in case of disaster. With all of the updates to the software that make your website work, eventually, one of them will cause a conflict of some kind. If this creates a fatal error, then your website won’t work. If that happens, the fastest fix is to install a recent backup. Stored both on your website backend for speed, but also offsite within the EU incase of total disaster and to comply with GDPR.
    • Performance Scan
WordPress websites slow down with time. We monitor your website page load time performance, running an analysis using the Google PageSpeed and Yahoo! YSlow ruleset.
    • Database Optimisation
WordPress uses a Database to manage data. Overtime, this can get “bogged down” with old changes, comments and overhead.
    • Google Console Notifications Dealt With
Google Console is how Google lets you know about your website. Occasionally, it will detect an error that needs fixing.
    • Spam Comments
If you have a Blog, part of the interaction is users commenting. Unfortunately, most WordPress Blogs also attract a lot of spam comments.
    • Analytics
How do you know how well your website works? If you don’t have/use/understand analytical software, then you won’t know how effective your website is!  You need analytical reports to give you more information on things like:

      • the number of visitors to the website,
      • whether that number is up or down on last month,
      • how long they stay on page,
      • where did they come from,
      • which pages are popular,

Without these, you’re at best guessing and can’t improve the website over time.

    • Uptime Monitoring
We monitor your website, at set intervals, in case it has an issue and goes down. The faster you know there is an issue, the faster it can be fixed and get you back up and running again.
That way issues are often fixed before anyone notices.

We also offer hosting. This is where your website and possibly emails live. I don’t think I need to say, but this needs to be secure, fast, reliable and fit for purpose and have an ongoing server maintenance plan. Our hosting is all of these things.

Never a cost to leave.

If we are building or redesigning your site; there is no setup fee if you are joining our maintenance program straight away as part of the project.

If it’s been more than six months since we built your site or if you have made changes to the site since we built it within those six months, there is a £100 setup fee.

If you decide to decline our maintenance plan, there’s a lot that can go wrong. Here are the top reasons I recommend you make sure your website is maintained:

  • The site will not be optimised which leads to poor performance, slow loading times and a gradual loss of Google SEO rankings.
  • The site’s tools, plugins, themes and WordPress itself will quickly go out of date which is the No.1 leading cause of website hacks. It’s incredibly important to keep ALL your website tools and plugins up-to-date.
  • You’ll have no backups or restore points so if the site get hacked or breached, you could lose all your content, pages and Google ranking.
  • You won’t get a monthly report overviewing your site traffic, page views, etc.
  • Most importantly, you won’t have us as your trusted webmaster to assist you with quick updates, tweaks, website issues, etc. Often you’ll have to try getting a hold of your hosting company for any assistance.

Sorry. The update time is just covered for that month. No rollovers.

We’ll always try to make sure your updates are done within 1 hour to save you some extra cost, but if there is a decent amount of updates that will require more hours we’ll give an estimate and do it at our hourly rate.

We’re pretty quick and will try to get to updates within 24-48hrs. As a monthly client, you always get top priority compared to clients who aren’t on the plan.
